Snoqualmie Stars Training Academy is a group training experience for our pre-competition and competitive athletes. The peer to peer, community training model is exclusive to the Sno-King Ice Arenas Snoqualmie location.
These classes aim to improve different aspects of skating performance, including technique, strength, flexibility, artistry, and overall athleticism. Advanced skills training classes are not introductory and require a level of skill to participate. Your coach or the skating director will guide you to which classes are best suited for you.

SSTA ON/OFF-ICE TRAINING
SSTA is a group training experience for our pre-competition and competitive athletes.
This 90 minute circuit class is designed to train skating skills, technique refinement, jumps, spins, and presentation. Each training session will include 60 minutes of on-ice training and 30 minutes of off-ice. On ice class groups will be divided by level and rotate the circuit every 15 minutes between our elite coaching staff.
Off-Ice session is included in registration when registering for on-ice.
Off-ice programs will be different each week, and will introduce valuable training from ballet, spin class, choreography, conditioning, and more. The peer to peer, community training model is exclusive to the Sno-King Snoqualmie Ice Arena.
ADULT ACADEMY
Ready to take your skating to the next level, or pick up where you left off as a young athlete? The Snoqualmie Stars Adult Academy is for you. Formerly “Adult Aspire”, this on and off-ice class meets you where you are, and takes you beyond. Each class will consist of a 35 minute on ice class (30 min of instruction, 5 min of practice), and 15 min of off-ice training.
Class instruction includes:
- Mastery of turns & Edges
- Moves in the Field prep
- On and off-ice jump training
- Spins
Our instructors want to hear from you during YOUR class time! What would you like to learn, or have broken down to the finest detail? Just ask!
Axel & Double Jumps
Open to skaters currently working on Axel and all double jumps. Participants must constantly land all single revolution jumps. The focus of this class is to reinforce technique, practice exercises, and give skaters an opportunity to spend time focused on jumps through coach guidance.
PREREQUISITES: Must have landed all Single jumps and working on Axel or higher
IJS Spins
This class is designed to introduce and refine spins listed with in the International Judging System (IJS). Skaters will explore difficult variations of each basic spin position, difficult entries and exits of spins, as well as flying entry. The use of proper IJS terminology is encouraged.
PREREQUISITES: Must be able to perform all basic positions: Upright, Sit, & Camel spins
Open Jumps
Open to all skaters who are currently landing up to a toe-loop jump. This class focuses on all single revolution jumps and Axel preparation exercises.
PREREQUISITES: Must have a toe-loop jump to register.
Skating Skills
This class works on specific skills and patterns included in the United States Figure Skating “Skating Skills” testing requirements (Formerly “Moves in the Field”). Our instructors will meet you where you are!
PREREQUISITES: Must be preparing to test at the minimum level of Pre-Preliminary
Power & Agility
This high intensity, full ice class, enforces the use of correct blade usage through edges and bend to generate power. Skaters will build stamina through fast paced drills, courage by learning to harness speed, and agility by working on powerful edge drills.
PREREQUISITES: Open to Basic 6 and up
Off-Ice High Performance Jumps
Strength & dynamic understanding of how to safely & correctly train as a high performance figure skater is the focus of this off-ice class.
Mini Stars Training Academy
Mini Stars is your pathway to our Snoqualmie Stars Training Academy and beyond! This “Mini” version of our award winning training program is designed for children aged 4 -9, who have shown interest in developing the skills needed to move into competitive figure skating. Please contact the skating director for more information.
2023/24 Level Requirements
Requests for advancement may only be made by the skaters coach. Skaters advancement will be fairly managed based on the foundations of the listed expectations. Skaters coming from other countries or governing bodies will be assessed on their first day of class and added to the correct group.
BRONZE
Minimum Level
Basic 6. Must have good quality forward and backward crossovers.

Advanced 1 foot spin, Introductory development of Waltz Jump, Toe-loop, and Salchow
SILVER
Minimum Level
Pre- Academy Plus
Elements
Upright “Scratch” Spin, Introductory development of Sit and Camel spins. Mastery of Waltz Jump, toe-loop, and Salchow. Development of Loop and Flip Jump
GOLD
Minimum Level
Freeskate 4
Elements
All Single jumps: Loop, Flip, Lutz. Mastery of all 3 basic spin positions held for 3 revolutions (Min) and developmental advancement of difficult variations of spins. Progression toward or has passed pre-preliminary skating skills test or equivalent.
PLATINUM
Minimum Level
Passed Pre-Preliminary Skating Skills test. Must have consistent Axel Jump OR Passed preliminary Skating Skills test or higher.
